1970 – The already well-known workshop Dall’Ara happened to be also the agency for Bergamo area; this workshop, in fact, was already committed to the world off-road competitions at high levels with the very well known Morini.
In winter, the doyen of the Dell’Ara brothers, Franco transformed a mass-produced scrambler 450 adapting it to the off-road needs and sharpened its racing qualities.
Its good result was featured by wheels 18x2, more strengthened Ceriani forks, Ceriani back shock absorbers, the engine was powered to 442cc, the weight was reduced from 145 to 130 Kg, but the silencer was still of poor quality.
Over that season, Ducati agreed on a shorter gear, and it is still a wonder why it kept the bull-horn handle, without middle stiffener, which would have made it easier to “catch again” in the event of fall.

After the first satisfying tests during the trials of the Province Championship, Franco Dall’Ara and his Ducati 442 were called to take part into the MC Bergamo representative for the Two Days in Catalogna, on the 2nd and 2nd of May.
Franco Dall’Ara ranked 5th among the highest powered ones and raced teaming with Edoardo Dossena (Morini 125) and Francesco Foresti (Gilera 175).
Franco Dall’Ara’s Ducati obtained good results also in the Italian off-road Championship, Group E, over 175cc.
His best score was reached during the third trial held in Trento, when he ranked 2nd just after Roberto Azzalin’s CZ, and ranked 3rd at the end of the Championship.
The following month Franco Dall’Ara arrived 4th at the Valli Bergamasche (Bergamo Valleys competition) (Lovere, 28th 29th June) class powered more than 350, which was then in the hands of the powerful MZ and Jawa.
