1971 – As the achieved results were satisfactory, the test went on with the new and more valid RT, which was released both with a 350 cc power and a 450 cc power. 1971 was a very successful year for these bikes.
High-level bikers had a go riding the off-road bikes by Borgo Panigale and Ducati was on stage playing the leading role for a year.
Carlo Moscheni, riding a transformed Scrambler, took part into some trials of the Italian Championship, but already on the occasion of the Valli Bergamasche (Bergamo Valleys competition) (1st and 2nd June), Augusto Taiocchi and Franco Dall’Ara turned 5th and 6th in the higher 350 class and the number and the value of the bikers competing increased a lot.
The team representing Italy at the international Six Days trophy was taking shape.
As a matter of fact, a few months later, the Italian Federation entrusted Doctor Mario Tremaglia, sports doctor and an important person among the MC Bergamo, with the organization of the team representing Italy.
Gilera suddenly was not available and Ducati represented a valid alternative, it prepared six bikes, three powered 350cc and three powered 450cc, handed directly in Bergamo according to the previous experiences.

Here below a cutting from Doctor Tremaglia’s memories (published completely in the section Forum of this website) with an interesting and influential memory:

“In the middle of 1971, I was invited to take up the responsibility for the Italian Off-Road, and I was so surprised. On the one hand I was worried of not being up to this task, on the other I was so pleased to be such deeply linked to the sports model that I had been following with deeper and deeper love for 20 years.

I accepted and I got down to the organization of the Six Days, that that year was going to be held in the Isle of Man, already very famous for its Tourist Trophy among bikers, the killing speed race across the streets of the isle.

Gilera granted me the bikes and the Federation chose me as the Italian member of the jury for the Tourist Trophy, but my task was to find a stay, vehicles, vans and whatever could have been useful for the September task.

I had no problem in finding what I was looking for, and I could even find a hotel on Duglas seaside run by an Italian! Anyway, I would like to spend a few words on the speed race, where unfortunately there is a casualty, even more than one, every year.
